This beautiful mare is Jasmine.

Jazz came to us as an owner surrender when her family wasn't able to take care of her any more. Her past is mostly a mystery. Her family hadn't known much about her history when they got her and we haven't been able to figure out too much more. We were told that she was about 15 years old, but after examining her teeth, it seems much more likely that she's closer to 25.

We believe she is a Thoroughbred who used to race, but we don't know for sure. She is tattooed, but unfortunately her tattoo is impossible to read so we can't look up her race record. From what we know, after her harness racing career, she bounced around from owner to owner for a while before being purchased by her most recent family as a riding horse for their daughter. However, the daughter had issues getting Jazz to canter and wasn't riding her as much as the family anticipated.

Since Jazz has been with us, it's become obvious that she's a horse who's been in pain for quite a while without getting any of the treatment that she needed and that is why she was having such issues picking up the canter. We started with joint injections to make her more comfortable, and when those didn't help as much as we were anticipated, we also had her tested for Lyme's Disease. When the results came back positive, we made the decision to stop riding her and to offer her as a companion horse instead.

The first summer she was with us we also learned that she has a pretty severe bug allergy, so she's currently living on Hydrox all year round (very similar to taking a benedryl daily) and then gets SA Powder added into her grain during the main buggy months.

The good news, is that she eats all of her meds and supplements in her grain with absolutely no issues and you don't have to worry about hiding them, you can just toss them in with her food and trust that she'll clean it all up without any complaint! In fact, the only thing she ever actually complains about is getting her blankets put on, and we think that's mostly a side effect of the chronic lyme making her skin a bit sensitive.

Jazzy can be a sassy ol' gal when she wants to be, so she needs a family who has a little bit of experience, but once she trusts you, she's got a stunning personality and she's a great companion horse. So far, she's gotten along with every horse we've tried her with!

She's also great for most vet work (but will flip her lip the second she sees the vet, every time - without fail). She does well with the farrier, especially if they give her an extra break when she's having a particularly stiff day and she loads and unloads off the trailer with no problem. We haven't done any body clipping with her since there was no need, but she stands like an angel every time we trim her bridle path!
